War graves

As you would expect, many of our parishioners fought for their country, not just in the Great War but the Second World War, the Falklands, Iraq, Afghanistan and many more. Sadly, many lost their lives and some have their final resting place in our graveyard.

Many were buried in family graves (more research to be done) but around twenty war graves are dotted around the churchyard.

Please note that this list is NOT definitive and that more research will need to be done regarding legal status.

Great Britain declared war on Germany at 11 o'clock in the evening of 4th August 1914. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month," in accordance with the Armistice, signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 a.m.) World War I officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.

Great Britain declared war on Germany again at 11 o'clock in the morning of 3rd September 1939. Hostilities in Europe ended officially at midnight, May 8. 1945.
