Rev. Alexander Horrocks, a native of Turton, was curate and lecturer under Richard Hardie. He was esteemed by many, but spoken of by the Cavaliers after the taking of Bolton as "that old rogue Horrocks that preaches in his grey cloak." He became minister of Westhoughton Chapel in 1628.
